  • WOMEN IN POULTRY

Ms. Zuwena Shemboza My Journey in the Poultry Industry From an early age, I was captivated by agriculture and its vital role in nourishing our communities. This enthusiasm guided me toward a career in the poultry industry, allowing me to merge my love for animals with my commitment to sustainable practices.   What fuels my passion is the immense potential for innovation within the poultry sector. I am motivated by the belief that we can simultaneously enhance animal welfare, boost sustainability, and secure food supplies. Witnessing the achievements of other women in this field has also been a significant source of inspiration; their stories of resilience and leadership demonstrate that we can indeed make a meaningful difference.    As a woman working in the veterinary laboratory sector, I have reached several milestones that I cherish. A highlight of my career was leading a project that developed new diagnostic methods for the early detection of poultry diseases. This initiative not only improved flock health management but also empowered local farmers to respond more effectively to disease outbreaks.  Overall, my journey has been characterized by growth, learning, and collaboration. I look forward to continuing to push boundaries and inspire the next generation of women in the poultry industry. #GrowingwithSilverlands, GrowinginPoultry #Silverlands Diagnosic Laboratory SilverStreet Capital LLP   silverlands tanzania   Zuwena Shemboza

  • THE INSPIRATIONAL JOURNEY OF AN ELDERLY POULTRY PIONEER

A 70-year-old determined, and ambitious woman named Edida. From Kikatiti Arusha had been running a small poultry farm for several years, but despite her hard work, she faced numerous challenges that hindered the growth of her business. Frustrated but not defeated, she decided it was time for a change. One day, Emma learned about an intensive poultry training program being offered at Silverlands PTC. Eager to enhance her skills and revitalize her farm, she made the bold decision to enroll in the program. The training covered a wide range of topics, from modern farming techniques and disease prevention to efficient chicken house design and sustainable practices. Throughout the training, Edida absorbed knowledge like a sponge. The experienced instructors, hands-on activities, and interactions with fellow poultry farmers fueled her passion and determination to transform her struggling farm into a model of success. As she listened to the instructor discussing the benefits of optimized space, proper ventilation, and easy maintenance, she realized that her current chicken houses were outdated and inefficient. Inspired by the new knowledge she had gained, she made a courageous decision – she would demolish her existing chicken houses and rebuild them from the ground up. We believe that her commitment to creating a healthier environment for her chickens will result in increased productivity and a noticeable improvement in the quality of her poultry products. She is truly inspiring other farmers to consider similar changes, not only for her courage in demolishing the old to make way for the new but also for her willingness to share knowledge and encourage others to embrace innovation. Emma's story serves as a powerful reminder that continuous learning and a willingness to adapt are essential ingredients for success in any endeavor. Her journey from attending poultry training to demolishing and rebuilding her chicken houses stands as a testament to the transformative power of education and the indomitable spirit of t

  • PTC & CRESD EMPOWERING YOUNG MOTHERS IN TANZANIA

Silverlands Poultry Training Centre (PTC) and CRESD: Empowering Young Mothers in Tanzania In collaboration with CRESD, Silverlands Poultry Training Centre (PTC) has been proud to support ten groups of young mothers from the Morogoro region in the Mvomero and Gairo districts. With 180 young mothers, 30 champs were chosen to lead the groups, we're able to make a difference by training the remaining. These young mothers were trained in proper poultry management (Sasso Brooding course) at Silverlands Poultry Training Centre, which has been a life-changing experience for them. The first batch of chicks, feeds, and vaccinations were funded by CRESD, and the young mothers were able to successfully raise and sell the chickens after two months with the help of Ms. Naomi, the sales/technical executive from Silverlands Morogoro. They used the profits to fund the second batch by purchasing chicks and feeds for the groups. This empowering initiative has given hope and dignity to many women who rely on others to care for their children and challenges the negative societal attitudes towards young mothers in Tanzania. The poultry business has provided a sustainable source of income for young mothers and an opportunity to learn valuable skills that can benefit them and their families in the long term. Also, their performance has been a motivation to CRESD to keep supporting the group of youth and 30 more youth have been recently brought to PTC for poultry training. We are here to help you overcome those challenges with our comprehensive training programs and support services. Join us today and let's grow together!

  • SECRETS TO FLAW-less POULTRY MANAGEMENT

Proper poultry management is crucial for maintaining the health, productivity, and profitability of your poultry flock. Most poultry keepers make mistakes in the management of the farms. Before we talk of the FLAW – less poultry management, here are some common mistakes to avoid through effective poultry management · Inadequate space along with poor ventilation · Poor sanitation/biosecurity · Improper feeding/inefficient nutrition · Neglecting vaccination regimes · Poor record keeping 5 TIPS TO FLAW- less POULTRY MANAGEMENT Here are the FLAW–less TIPS that Silverlands suggests for successful poultry farming. Let's grow together. Tip #1 – F- Feed To have fewer or no mistakes in feeding make sure that you have the best type of feed that has proven to have all the best nutrients, for a certain flock age. The quantity of feed has to be as advised and we suggest you use Silverlands feed for best results. Our feed is formulated by experts in their field to ensure a well-balanced diet for our chickens. Note that inadequate or imbalanced nutrition can lead to poor growth, less egg production, and overall health. Tip #2 – L – Light Make sure to have a proper lighting program for your chicken house for young flocks. Ensure one hour of rest (light off-hour) for broilers and layers at least 2 hours off after every 4 hours light on. Chickens also need sleep and this will help them absorb the nutrients in feed consumed. Tip #3 – A - Air Make sure there is no dust and monitor ammonia levels in your poultry house by providing sufficient ventilation. Do not compromise ventilation for temperature. What we mean by this is do not be afraid to leave curtains (if you have one) open at the top for ventilation, especially when using charcoal brooders. This will ensure fresh air enters the house and eliminates the build-up of carbon dioxide. Also overcrowding birds can lead to stress, disease spread, and reduced growth. Required stocking density will differ in different areas, especially in broilers, depending on climate and humidity. Tip #4 - W - Water Insufficient access to clean water can lead to dehydration and decreased egg production. Consider having enough drinkers, and clean and portable water, and the settings of your drinkers should match your flock's age. If you are not willing to drink the water you give your chickens, then the water is not clean enough for your chickens. For your chickens to eat enough, they also need to have sufficient water. Please keep in mind that hotter and more humid areas will require you to give your chickens more water than an area that has a milder climate. Tip #5 – S - Sanitation Neglecting cleanliness can lead to disease outbreaks and decreased flock health and allowing unauthorized personnel or equipment into the farm can introduce diseases. Make sure to implement strict biosecurity measures to control who enters the farm and regularly monitor for any signs of disease Also regularly clean the feeding equipment, and drinkers to prevent the buildup of pathogens. If you do not adhere to good biosecurity measures, all the vaccines you are administering to your chickens will be useless. Biosecurity is your first line of defense against pathogens. Proper poultry management requires consistent attention to detail, a focus on prevention, and a willingness to adapt based on the needs of your flock. Regular consultation with experts, such as veterinarians and poultry nutritionists, can significantly contribute to successful poultry farming. But the most useful of them all is to attend the poultry course offered by Silverlands Poultry Training Centre (PTC). • WINNING TOGETHER

While the livestock industry is growing, we make sure our poultry farmers grow by providing them with the best technical knowledge in poultry keeping. The training they receive at our poultry training centre keeps them a step ahead of their competitors in the poultry business. Silverlands Poultry Training Center produces the best poultry farmers in the country. We are very proud of the impact they are having and the dedication and commitment they have shown in the last 6 years. Mosses Kuppa a winner of best poultry farmer in the southern zone says he the training centre taught him how to keep his costs low and how to get the best production possible in his environment. He has had very little disease challenges on his farm, and using the feeding regime he was taught, his feed costs are low. His chickens are also reaching good body weights and low mortality rate. He gives all credit to the training centre. We however know that it is all about teamwork and he practiced what he was taught to be able to achieve the success he has achieved. Lilian also known as Mama Kuku won a Trophy for best poultry farmer in the northern zone. • LACK OF KNOWLEDGE IS THE SOURCE OF LOSS FOR MANY POULTRY FARMERS

Lack of advanced knowledge in poultry management has resulted in many farmers suffering losses in the beginning stages of their chicken business. Silverlands has acknowledged these farmers’ struggles and in 2016, established a world-class poultry training center (PTC) that provides thorough training to farmers to ensure they have a strong foundation in basic poultry management. What sets this training facility apart from others, is the practical aspect of the training offered. So many so-called poultry experts are offering one-day seminars, which may be useful for the more experienced farmer, but do not benefit the beginner in poultry farming. Written in Mwananchi newspaper on 18/05/2022, many poultry farmers will gain knowledge of the market for the chickens and avoid unnecessary losses. Silverlands Poultry Training Center is the solution.

  • SASSO IS A GOLD MINE FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH AND EMPLOYMENT

Silverlands Tanzania Limited has been honored to be one of the sponsors of the KUKU CHOMA CARNIVAL event held in Dar es Salaam that was prepared by the Tanzania Meat Board in collaboration with Guru Planet. The reason for this event was to create awareness of the importance of eating meat, especially chicken, and eggs, as they are excellent sources of protein. As mentioned in the Daily News newspaper of 16/05/2022 Considering the importance of health and nutrition for families, SASSO is the best choice of chicken. SASSO growth does not depend on growth boosters and has more meat with a unique and delicious taste. Our customers were very happy with the cooked chicken sold at the event. Potential poultry farmers were impressed with the SASSO and admitted to the bird being an excellent choice. We have so many testimonies from different farmers, the youth, and women who have begun their own businesses with SASSO rearing proving the potential success that can be achieved. The lives of many have been changed by growing SASSO.

  • THE MAGNIFICENT CHICKEN TRACTOR

Growing up as Tanzanians, we have been told to avoid eating broilers due to them being exposed to medication and boosters in their rearing. Mrs. Cas Kuplen from Arusha, and her unique method of rearing broilers, proves that this does not need to be the case. She is fast becoming a lead poultry farmer due to her innovation and ‘thinking out of the box’ methods. She has designed an enclosure for not only broilers, but also Sasso, that also enables them to grow in a free-range environment. This is called the tractor enclosure. The chickens are able to feed on grass, insects and some additional Silverlands feed spread in the enclosure, to ensure they receive all the nourishment they need. The enclosure, due to being so light, is picked up and slowly moved twice daily. Water fonts with fresh water are also placed in the enclosure. It also provides shade, shelter from bad weather and protection against predators. This method has resulted in chickens having a friendlier and happier environment to grow in, healthier birds overall and has saved Mrs. Kuplen in her costs. The land the chickens are kept, also becomes more fertile due to the manure naturally being spread. She says her birds only have one bad day and that is slaughter day.
