Silverlands Tanzania Limited has been honored to be one of the sponsors of the KUKU CHOMA CARNIVAL event held in Dar es Salaam that was prepared by the Tanzania Meat Board in collaboration with Guru Planet. The reason for this event was to create awareness of the importance of eating meat, especially chicken, and eggs, as they are excellent sources of protein. As mentioned in the Daily News newspaper of 16/05/2022 Considering the importance of health and nutrition for families, SASSO is the best choice of chicken. SASSO growth does not depend on growth boosters and has more meat with a unique and delicious taste. Our customers were very happy with the cooked chicken sold at the event. Potential poultry farmers were impressed with the SASSO and admitted to the bird being an excellent choice. We have so many testimonies from different farmers, the youth, and women who have begun their own businesses with SASSO rearing proving the potential success that can be achieved. The lives of many have been changed by growing SASSO.

Growing up as Tanzanians, we have been told to avoid eating broilers due to them being exposed to medication and boosters in their rearing. Mrs. Cas Kuplen from Arusha, and her unique method of rearing broilers, proves that this does not need to be the case. She is fast becoming a lead poultry farmer due to her innovation and ‘thinking out of the box’ methods. She has designed an enclosure for not only broilers, but also Sasso, that also enables them to grow in a free-range environment. This is called the tractor enclosure. The chickens are able to feed on grass, insects and some additional Silverlands feed spread in the enclosure, to ensure they receive all the nourishment they need. The enclosure, due to being so light, is picked up and slowly moved twice daily. Water fonts with fresh water are also placed in the enclosure. It also provides shade, shelter from bad weather and protection against predators. This method has resulted in chickens having a friendlier and happier environment to grow in, healthier birds overall and has saved Mrs. Kuplen in her costs. The land the chickens are kept, also becomes more fertile due to the manure naturally being spread. She says her birds only have one bad day and that is slaughter day.

Mr. James Nyirenda has been dreaming of owning his own poultry farm for many years. He was not however convinced, that the breeds available to him, were going to suit his requirements. In his quest to find the perfect breed, he stumbled on the Silverlands Tanzania website while searching the internet. He and his wife traveled to Silverlands, and they both attended training at our prestigious training centre. This was where Mr. Nyirenda first saw the Sasso breed. He was impressed with their track record as a hardy, versatile bird that could also be sold as a scavenging bird. After returning to Malawi, he and his wife started Katiri Poultry in Kaonga, North Malawi. He is currently brooding Sasso chicks from Silverlands and selling them in the area. The chicks are fully vaccinated, healthy chicks and they sell themselves, according to Mr. Nyirenda. Welcome to the Silverlands family!
